The Eiger Sanction

The Eiger Sanction

The Eiger Sanction 1975
The Eiger Sanction is a American action thriller based on the novel The Eiger Sanction by Trevanian, a pseudonym for the American author, Dr. Rodney William Whitaker. The film was directed by Clint Eastwood. He also starred as Dr. Jonathan Hemlock.
Clint Eastwood had the double role as director and superstar in this spy and adventure movie. His acting made up for the slow pace with a spectacular finale on the dangerous mountaintop of the Eiger in the Alps of Switzerland.

The action starts when Clint Eastwood, before a live audience a retired executioner, is rehired by a classified agency. An old acquaintance of him has been assassinated and his job is to punish the killers.

He is afterward blackmailed to do one more hit, this time around his aim is a member of the trio that will set out to climb the north face of Eiger, a treacherous mountain in Switzerland.

As a capable mountaineer himself, Eastwood's character, Dr. Jonathan Hemlock, joins the group of mountaineers while George Kennedy is the person in charge of the base crew.

Changing loyalties, obvious betrayals, and fixated suspicion factor in a tension filled climax at the actual face of the Eiger Mountain

This unforgettable sequence - in which Clint Eastwood carried out his own mountaineering stunts - compellingly extreme, was constructed on a typical scheme of betrayals as well as conspiracy that was aimed to bring together Clint Eastwood's screen character with the worldwide adventures of James Bond pictures.

Mainly it works - it's not necessary Eastwood's best picture, but it has some premier power (and a canny acting by Jack Cassidy) to seize and hold on your interest.
